Computer Comfort
Computer Comfort is a client-driven program intended to provide an informal and non threatening environment for learning basic computer skills. Computers are an important tool these days and they can provide opportunities to live more independently. Computer Comfort is also available via Distance Learning.
The Learning System
Each client works one-to-one with a volunteer tutor on a self-identified computer goal, e.g., word processing, the Internet, etc. The program offers a self-paced environment where participants work towards their individual goals over the course of four months.
Tools and Ergonomic Set-up
As all of our programs, Computer Comfort offers the required ergonomic support for each of our clients. Height adjustable tables, assistive keyboards, mice and software are available to meet the accesibility needs of participants in the classroom.
Our Volunteers
Volunteers play a big role in our Computer Comfort program. Working one-on-one with our clients they make it possible for participants to learn at their own pace and provide them with the guidance they need to reach their goals.
Who should take this program?
This program is suitable for people who have a physical disability which affects mobility; are able to communicate independently (verbally or augmented); and have a desire to improve their computer knowledge and skills.
Program participants may require adaptive equipment to use a computer, an adapted work space, an adapted method of instruction or be unable to pay for computer training due to the costs associated with disability. The needs of individuals who also have a cognitive disability should not exceed the average skill level of a volunteer. Please call to confirm suitability.
Create positive changes in your life, learn basic computer skills.
Computer Refurbishing
Through our Computer Comfort Refurbishing program, we accept used computers from individuals, organizations, and companies. These computers are wiped clean, re-loaded with a licensed copy of Windows 2000 or Windows XP (provided to us through the Microsoft Authorized Refurbishers program), fully tested, and put into the hands of a person with a disability for free. We accept computers that are at least 700 Mhz, with a 10 Gig hard drive, and that have 128 MB of RAM.
