Krista Shows Off Her Skills and Lands a Job

December 6, 2010

Krista, who has cerebral palsy (new window), came to the Neil Squire Society in New Brunswick seeking a more stable and dependable employment situation. She had been working on a temporary, part time basis and was eager for the Neil Squire Society to Employ-Ability program participant kristahelp her show potential employers her skills rather than her disability.

Krista enrolled in the Employ-Ability program and it quickly became evident that she had great strengths. Self-assured and outgoing, Krista taught herself a wide range of computer skills including software and network familiarity.

Krista had an aha moment” in the Employ-Ability program when she realized all of the great qualities she had to offer an employer. Her self-confidence blossomed during this time and it was apparent to all staff who worked with her that she was a young woman on the move.

Krista set her sights on working for Barrett Xplore (new window), Canada’s largest and fastest growing wireless broadband service provider. Shortly after the conclusion of the classroom portion of the Employ-Ability Program, the Society’s Employment Specialist made contact with the human resources department for Barrett Xplore (new window) and arranged an interview for Krista. Krista was hired, almost on the spot. She was offered a part time position with the possibility of full time in the future.

Krista now works as a Customer Service Representative, providing technical support to customers with wireless internet in rural areas throughout New Brunswick.

Congratulations, Krista!
