SUMMARY:The Sip and Puff Adapted Mask Build-a-thon!
DESCRIPTION:Build a mask to help a person with a disability access their sip and puff devices while staying COVID safe! \n \nAbout this Event\n\nMakers Making Change‘s Atlanta Georgia Chapter and the Shepard Center are co-hosting a Sip and Puff Adapted Mask Build-a-thon! This event will occur simultaneously virtually and in person; Virtually (for the general public) and in-person event for the staff of the Shepherd Center.   Chapter Leader Kristen Webber will lead you through the process of building Aug 5 at 1pm EST\n\n \n\n\n\nWhere Will the Masks Made at the Event Go?\nMasks produced during this event will be supplied to inpatients and outpatients of the Shepherd Center. The Shepherd Center will also coordinate the COVID safe distribution of Sip and Puff masks created in the Atlanta\, Georgia area. For those producing masks in other areas in the United States and Canada hosts will review how to supply masks to sip and puff users in your area. \nHow Does the Virtual Event Work?\nFollowing registration\, participants are emailed the Zoom invitation for virtual participation 2 days before and the day of the event. Also included in the email there will be instructions for production\, and information regarding supplying masks to sip and puff users following production. A list of tools and materials is provided in the eventbrite registration link for your to purchase before the event. \nAbout Our Atlanta Georgia Chapter Leader:\nKristen works at the Shepherd Center as a dual spinal cord and brain injury specialist in Atlanta Georgia. She is currently an inpatient therapy manager within Shepherd’s spinal cord injury program. Kristen also works PRN in direct clinical practice at Emory Rehabilitation Hospital. Kristen received her BS and MS in Occupational Science and Technology; along with a graduate certificate in Assistive Technology and Accessible Design from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. In 2017\, she was awarded Board Certification in Physical Rehabilitation from the American Occupational Therapy Association. In 2018 she became licensed as an Assistive Technology Professional. Kristen has a passion for universal design in products as well as digital and physical environments. During her tenure as Membership Chair she assisted her committee in founding the GOTA YouTube Channel. As Communication Chair she helped to bring universal design principles to the GOTA web page\, YouTube Channel\, Newsletter\, and email blasts improving accessibility for those with visual\, auditory\, and physical impairments. \n\n\n\n\n\nMakers Making Change is a project that pairs makers with people with disabilities who need access to low cost assistive technologies.
