DESCRIPTION:Let’s change the way we think\, talk and act about accessibility and inclusion!\nNational AccessAbility Week takes place every year starting on the last Sunday in May. It is a time when accessibility and inclusion is promoted across communities and workplaces and a time to celebrate the contributions of Canadians with disabilities. It is also an opportunity to recognize the efforts of Canadians who are actively removing barriers and ensuring persons with disabilities have an equal chance to participate in all aspects of Canadian society. \nThe increased social and economic inclusion of persons with disabilities has positive economic and social benefits\, for persons with disabilities\, for business\, the economy\, and society in general.

SUMMARY:2019 Vancouver TELUS Days of Giving Build Event
DESCRIPTION:Since 2017\, Neil Squire Society’s Makers Making Change Program has worked closely with TELUS in providing a number of hands on STEM event for their employees as part of the TELUS Days of Giving program. The first two years\, the events were focused as day long build events of the LipSync. This year\, we are focusing on building low-cost access switches that would enable people with disabilities to access technology and environmental controls. \nLearn to Build an Access Switch \nOn Friday May 31\, 2019\, Makers Making Change and TELUS will be hosting a drop-in format build event at TELUS Garden in Vancouver. It is opened to TELUS employees and to any public guests. \nBuilds will take approximately 15 minutes to make and will involve some soldering. Experience in electronics and soldering is not required\, so drop by and support your community though increasing access to technology for everyone. \nParticipate in Canadian AccessAbility Week \nThere will be other switch building events with TELUS happening across Canada as part of Canadian AccessAbility Week. These events will also be open the public so feel free to share this with your friends and family across Canada.
