SUMMARY:OpenRoad Build Event
DESCRIPTION:Every child deserves to play. But for many kids with disabilities\, toys can be hard to use independently\, and commercially adapted versions can run upwards of $300. However\, with a little bit of tinkering\, we can switch-adapt toys and make them accessible for a fraction of the cost. \nThrough OpenRoad’s support\, buildathon events allow us to make make assistive switches and adapt toys for families and therapists across Canada at no cost. \nEvent: \nThis event will give OpenRoad Group members and community volunteers the opportunity to walk through a toy adaption with Makers Making Change staff. Members will be given the opportunity to solder and test out their adaptive device. Devices will then be donated to members in the community. \nWho is Makers Making Change: \nMakers Making Change is an online platform providing a disruptively low-cost alternative to commercially available assistive technologies. With a wide range of devices available in the assistive devices library\, there are many options for people to request from and work with a volunteer maker who can build it for them. \nAbout OpenRoad \nOpenRoad Auto Group is one of Canada’s fastest-growing automotive retail groups\, celebrating their 25th anniversary as OpenRoad this year. Proudly co-hosting this Buildathon is OpenRoad Volkswagen\, one of 25 OpenRoad locations in BC. OpenRoad Volkswagen has been a proud member of the Burnaby community since 2016\, offering a more relaxed and flexible Volkswagen shopping and ownership experience. As an organization\, OpenRoad remains committed to working with partners like Neil Squire Society and the Makers Making Change program to give back to the community.

SUMMARY:National Volunteer Week
DESCRIPTION:Volunteers Make Waves \nTogether\, we create ripples of change \n#VolunteersMakeWaves #NVW2025 \nThe theme for National Volunteer Week 2025 is Volunteers Make Waves. It highlights the power\, impact and importance of individual and collective volunteer efforts across Canada. Like a wave\, volunteering is movement building. \nWater is in constant motion\, always flowing\, shifting\, and transforming with every powerful wave or quiet ripple. And so is each volunteer’s contribution toward creating impact in our communities. \nEach individual volunteer contribution\, big or small\, creates momentum and has the power to influence and inspire\, joining a wave of positive change. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuilding on the tides sent out before us\, waves swell with each generation of volunteers. Our actions ripple out to broader community benefits\, like improved well-being\, increased social cohesion\, and enhanced resilience in the face of change and uncertainty. \nEach wave is unique and brings something vibrant and new to the ecosystem. \nDuring National Volunteer Week 2025\, we come together to recognize and celebrate all the ways volunteers make waves from coast to coast to coast. Together we create ripples of change. And through the power of our amplified impact\, Volunteers Make Waves. \nThe sharing of time\, skills\, empathy\, and creativity is vital to the inclusivity\, strength\, and well-being of our communities. By coming together\, committing support\, and increasing our collective efforts and impact\, volunteers contribute exponentially to the quality of life we all strive for. \nNational Volunteer Week is a chance to highlight the value of volunteers and their positive impact on society.
