SUMMARY:Makers Making Change Meetup: Brampton Library
DESCRIPTION:Join us to 3D print assistive devices for a good cause! \nOnce a month\, Makers from all over Brampton are invited to gather at Springdale Library Branch MakerSpace to learn about\, explore\, design and create 3D printed assistive technology. Hack a toy to include a switch instead of a button. Create a new kind of remote control. Invent a non-twist bottle cap opener. Creations will be donated to community organizations in need. This meetup is a partnership between Makers Making Change and Brampton Library.

SUMMARY:BCIT Additive Tech Conference
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this 2-day workshop presented by a cross-section of persons at the front-line of teaching and innovating with 3D printing in Assistive Technology\, Prosthetics & Orthotics (new window) to share their experiences and insights. \nPresenters range from end-users doing their own prints to educators grappling with how to include this in curriculum\, to persons engaged in bringing this technology to market or into clinical practices\, while navigating quality control and regulatory requirements. These front-line persons will discuss issues they faced\, how they solved problems and what opportunities and challenges they see in applying 3D printing to AT-P&O applications. Critically\, knowledge creation and educational support will be considered. Training of Clinical Professionals and Engineering rarely cross over formally in undergraduate education. A portion of time will be taken to consider how education will play a role in bridging existing gaps at the intersection where this innovation is taking place. \nMakers Making Change will present session on both days\, including a build of one of our open source joystick solutions\, as well as a design thinking jam session on various human interface to game controllers.

SUMMARY:September MMC Monthly Info Session
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our Makers Making Change Monthly Information Session! Our regional coordinators will introduce our Makers Making Change project and provide attendees with everything they need to know to be a part of this exciting project. This is a great opportunity to ask questions or to figure out how you want to get involved – whether it be to receive devices\, volunteer to build\, or whatever you think you can contribute! \nMakers Making Change is a project that connects people who could benefit from assistive devices with volunteer makers. Makers Making Change (MMC) is an innovative community-based initiative that connects makers to people with disabilities to create affordable open source assistive technologies. Makers Making Change utilizes emerging technology such as Arduino microcontrollers\, 3D printing and laser cutting. The project integrates the culture and communities that surround the open source movement\, the maker movement and the crowdsourcing movement.

SUMMARY:The Volunteer Management Hybrid Conference 2023
DESCRIPTION:The generation of volunteers in the not too distant future will be very different compared to volunteers now. How can we prepare our policies\, programs and recruitment in an inclusive\, responsible\, and creative way that looks to leverage technology in a human world? \nStephan Dobri\, a Mechanical Engineer on our Makers Making Change team\, will be speaking at this conference. \nStephan has always been interested in using engineering to help improve the lives of other people. The desire to help others lead him to complete his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering with the Building and Designing Assistive Technology (BDAT) Lab at Queen’s University\, where he learned more about universal and user-centred design\, and assistive devices. Through the BDAT Lab and subsequent teaching at Queen’s\, Stephan learned about Makers Making Change (MMC) and he jumped at the opportunity to join the Engineering and Outreach teams. \nStephan will be presenting creative ways technology is helping volunteers and programs.
