SUMMARY:Linden Christian School - 3D Printing 101 and Toy Hack
DESCRIPTION:Over the course of three workshops\, Makers Making Change will be introducing our program to Grade 9 students at Linden Christian School. \nStudents will be introduced to Computer Aided Design (CAD) using Tinkercad. They will learn how they can design and make affordable assistive technology devices. \nStudents will also use Tinkercad to design 3d printed toppers for assistive switches. \nFinally\, students will assemble assistive switches using their customized switch toppers and will switch adapt toys to help illustrate one of many applications of assistive switches. Toys and switches will be donated to children with disabilities in the local community.

DESCRIPTION:Makers Making Change is excited to be hosted by New Brunswick’s Medical Society for a Toy Adapting workshop for our Hacking for the Holidays campaign! \nStaff will be given toys\, instructions\, parts and tools and walked through adapting a tool so it can be paired with an assistive switch\, making play more accessible. Staff will also learn about our Makers Making Change program\, the needs and cost of assistive technology and adapted toys\, and the need within the community. All toys adapted in this workshop will be donated locally to families and clinicians\, with many going to the Stan Cassidy Centre for Rehabilitation. \nWe thank New Brunswick Medical Society for contributing to Hacking for the Holidays!

Makers Making Change utilizes emerging technology such as Arduino microcontrollers\, 3D printing and laser cutting. The project integrates the culture and communities that surround the open source movement\, the maker movement and the crowdsourcing movement.

While there will be the option to have your gift wrapped in the traditional or usual way\, we will also be demonstrating accessible gift wrapping. This option allows for gifts to be wrapped with a string or ribbon attached\, so it can be easily pulled.
