Zach Faces his Fears

July 7, 2015

Facing his fears has not been an easy task for Zach, “but it is part of being human and success depends on it,” he says. In his case, his fears were talking on the phone and writing on the blackboard. “I could not think Employ-Abilty Participant, Zach poses with his instructors at his graduationstraight because I was so nervous”, says Zach, “I felt like I was under pressure to answer. I felt like I did not have enough time to think; it was frustrating to say the least,” he shares. Even though it was very difficult, Zach never gave up. “I know I will never be fully comfortable, but I learned to cope.”

Zach’s fears were put to the test during his time in the Neil Squire Society’s Employ-Ability Program. His decision to join the class “has proven to be very fulfilling,” he tells us. “The Program has improved my chances of employment.” The Program taught Zach some valuable skills. He learned about work conflict (new window), the interview process, stress management (new window), and how to properly write a resume and cover letter. “I am much better equipped and more confident that I can succeed as an individual in the labour force.”

“My plans are to find a job for now, hopefully it is something to do with carpentry (new window),” says Zack, who also hopes to start a course in carpentry.

“I know that life’s not easy and I will have some battles, but at least I am better prepared for what is to come. I have a dream and I plan to climb to the top as hard as that might be,” says Zach. “Fight, fight, fight don’t give up. Life is hard sometimes, but quitting is not the answer.”

Good luck to you, Zach!
