Marcie had a stroke several years ago, which has left her with hemiparesis — weakness — on her right side. This made using a traditional heavy vacuum with a cord — particularly on the stairs — difficult, and even dangerous for her.
“From a UX designer’s perspective, I was often surprised at how a feature that I had initially thought was designed well could unintentionally have a negative impact on the user experience for those who were not comfortable using technology.”

“There were a few customers who were very soft spoken and although I liked working with them, I was always anxious that I wouldn’t hear them correctly (and I often didn’t!). It was easy to become awkward and embarrassed when I didn’t hear them or misheard them.”
