Vancity continues to provide computer skills development for persons with disabilities

January 24, 2013

BURNABY, (new window) British Columbia (new window), January 24, 2013 – The Neil Squire Society (new window) is excited to announce that for the ninth consecutive year, Vancity has provided a $10,000 community project grant in support of the Society’s Computer Comfort Program for persons with physical disabilities.

The Computer Comfort Program is one of the Neil Squire Society’s longest running programs providing the perfect starting point for adults with physical disabilities who want to develop basic computer skills. It offers one-on-one computer tutoring at no cost in a supportive, client-centered environment. Computers are an important link to the outside world. The ability to develop computer skills provides individuals with physical disabilities a gateway to building confidence, career exploration, access to resources, and the ability to connect with friends and family.

Thanks to Vancity, the Computer Comfort Program has helped so many clients learn basic through intermediate one-on-one computer skills. The greatest accomplishment is when the client leaves the program with a big smile on their face. For many, this can be the first step in gaining confidence to move towards mainstreaming into society and/or gainful employment.” – Munesh Raman, Computer Comfort Coordinator.

Vancity donates $10,000 to the Neil Squire Society' Computer Comfort Program Left to Right: Munesh Raman, Computer Comfort Coordinator; Maria Michayluk, Vancity Burnaby Heights Branch Manager; Chad Leaman, Director of Development; Alexi Thomas, Manager of Communications
