Burnaby Student Helps Out

March 6, 2012

The Neil Squire Society (new window) had a little help this past week from Timothy, a grade 12 student from Burnaby (new window), British Columbia (new window). Timothy spent the week refurbishing (new window) computers in the Computer Comfort Program. He enjoys building computers in his free time so this was no challenge for him.

Timothy was happy to be assigned to the Neil Squire Society by his teacher because “it is a neat organization” and his experience “was very cool”. He met a lot of people and appreciates the Neil Squire Society’s goal of “helping people to overcome their disability through the use of computers”. The only negative comment he had to say was that “the room would get very hot with all those computers on”.

Like most grade 12 students Timothy is still a little unclear of what he wants to do after high school (new window). Working in the technology/computer field is an option but his true passion lies in photography (new window).

Good luck in the future Timothy. Hopefully we will see you again soon!

This is Timothy’s story in his own words,

My week of experience at Neil Squire Society was extremely amazing. Before this work experience I didn’t really know what I was going to be doing. On the first day of work experience the people there made me feel right at home. Everyone was kind-hearted and willing to help others, making my experience a really special one. I learned a lot from the guys I worked with, especially Joe (since I worked with him the most). I learned about small things that I wouldn’t know about which can help me in the future. My favourite thing about this work experience was that I got to meet many people and got a chance to talk to some of them. Overall I think this was a good week, I am glad that I was assigned here for work experience. This organization helped me realize how satisfying it is to help others. It also inspired me to continue volunteering at some sort of place to help others.
