Early last year, Lorne experienced sudden hearing loss, before also losing his ability to speak. He uses a pen and notepad, limited lip-reading skills, and American Sign Language (ASL) to communicate. He also uses a small clip-on microphone that transmits the speaker’s voice directly into his ears using wireless technology that connects to his hearing aids. Despite these supports, he has struggled to find work.
Over two days from August 20th to 21st, eight youth with disabilities from British Columbia took part in our first ever Adaptive Gaming Virtual Day Camp, co-hosted by our friends at Technology for Living.
Thanks to vehicle modifications he received through WorkBC Assistive Technology Services, Ahmed has been able to work as a rideshare driver for the last four months.
