The City of Port Coquitlam (new window) recently replaced their office computers in order to make room for more powerful machines and, in the process, generously donated 27 of their old computers to the Neil Squire Society’s Computer Refurbishing program.
Robin Wishart, Manager of Information Service for the City of Port Coquitlam (new window) says reusing equipment is “always the first choice” for the City, however, when deciding what to do with used equipment that no longer serves their purpose, they make sure to send it to a local recycling program that they know will make good use of it, such the Neil Squire Society’s Computer Refurbishing program.
On average, the Neil Squire Society refurbishes more than 60 computers a year, resulting in more than a ton of e-waste being kept out of BC landfills. As a Microsoft® Registered Refurbisher (new window), they accept donations of used computers from organizations and individuals which are refurbished and provided to people with disabilities for free, greatly improving their independence, access to resources, and connections with family and friends.
Thank you City of Port Coquitlam (new window) for your very generous donation!
