In our leadup to this year’s CAOT Conference, we published a story each week on occupational therapists’ experiences with Makers Making Change, with looks at OTs who have requested and received devices, and OTs who make and lead chapters.
All five parts are listed below:
“A Very Helpful Resource”
Cherry Nixdorf is an occupational therapist at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. When she learned about Makers Making Change, she became very interested in the LipSync.
“It’s a Really Good Way to Ensure That They Can Continue That Communication With Family”
Marla Calder, an occupational therapist at the Stan Cassidy Centre for Rehabilitation in Fredericton, New Brunswick has some great successes with the LipSync.
“To Be Able to Have [A Device] at Such a Low Cost Is Really Wonderful”
For one occupational therapist in Vancouver, BC, Makers Making Change came in handy when her client with a spinal cord injury needed a customized utensil holder.
“I Love That the Plans Are Shared Without a Cost Involved”
“I am really glad that your website is there for people to use, and I love that the plans are shared without a cost involved,” pediatric occupational therapist Rachel Thiros says. “I don’t know how I would have made these kinds of adaptations for my student without that kind of resource.”
Occupational Therapists Making Change
While many occupational therapists use Makers Making Change designs in their practice, many OTs also volunteer with MMC — some even lead chapters.
