Erika Completes Training And Launches New Career

September 15, 2010

Erika was diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (new window). She had almost completed her teacher training at Simon Fraser University (new window) when she was referred to the Neil Squire Society’s Job Focus Program by a Ministry of Housing and Social Development (new window) disability consultant. Job Focus staff assisted Erika to complete her teacher training and then transitioned her to job search services.

Erika very quickly secured a six month contract teaching elementary school in New Aiyansh (new window) in northern British Columbia. Upon completion of this contract she began substitute teaching in Coquitlam (new window) and was then able to secure a full time position as an elementary school teacher with the Sooke School District on Vancouver Island (new window), where she continues to be employed.

Good luck with your new career, Erika!
