Volunteer Position: Computer Comfort Program Computer Tutor

Location: our office in either Burnaby, British Columbia or Regina, Saskatchewan

Purpose

Work one-on-one in-person with program participants on computer learning activities. In partnership with participants and the program co-ordinator/instructor, the Computer Tutor strives to increase each participant’s level of comfort and independence with computer technology. Computer Tutors work within the Computer Comfort Program under the program coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Helping clients to uncover the potential of computers
  • Assist participants with computer learning activities, and answer participants’ questions as needed
  • Create inventive and individualized lesson plans for clients with varying levels of experience and skills.
  • Review covered material regularly and monitor participant’s progress
  • Communicate regularly with program coordinator / instructor to report participants’ progress and receive feedback on tutoring.
  • Log hours spent tutoring

Qualifications

  • Applicants will be self-motivated, creative, and interested in working with adults who have physical disabilities
  • Ability to build rapport and gain a sense of where the clients want their computer skills to take them
  • Good to advanced computer skills including, Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and safe / secure use of Internet technologies
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Teaching or tutoring experience is an advantage

Time Frame
