How Your Donation Helps:
Omar (new window) dove into water, hit a rock, and broke his neck at the C5 vertebrae. “I was like, my life was totally over,” he says. The Neil Squire Society provided him with a LipSync, which he describes as “life changing”. Now, he’s using it to pursue his dreams. He used the LipSync to write an exam for a Business English course. He didn’t just pass the course either. He excelled.
Maria-Luisa (new window) has rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia, which affect her mobility and her ability to work with her hands. The Neil Squire Society worked with Maria-Luisa to assess a range of career avenues and ultimately helped her land a job as an interpreter at the Canadian Border Services Agency. “I am active, working, and positive that this job could be long-term,” she says.
Lorne (new window) had an accident causing severe brain trauma and a broken back. Through the Neil Squire Society, he received tutoring to re-learn his computer skills. “[Being at the] Neil Squire Society and being at the computer lab, I felt very safe and comfortable,” he says. Lorne now uses these skills to volunteer at an organization that helps people with mental illness.
