On October 12th, Neil Squire, the Canadian leader in assistive technology, and their Makers Making Change initiative, officially marked 10,000 assistive devices made for persons with disabilities at a build event hosted in partnership with Full Circle™, an Electronic Arts video game development studio.
September is Arthritis Awareness Month in Canada. According to the Arthritis Society of Canada, approximately 6 million Canadians have arthritis, and nearly 1 in 2 people over 65 have arthritis. We wanted to highlight some of the newer devices in our Assistive Device Library that are designed with people with arthritis in mind.
This year, we’re marking five years of the Makers Making Change Assistive Device Library. Over the years, the Assistive Device Library has evolved. We wanted to take a look at how far we’ve come.
“I have been provided with a tool so that I do not have to ask someone every single day so I can have my tea or water,” Marie says. “It may seem like a small thing, but it’s a huge gift. You won’t understand until you need it.”
As an occupational therapist working in schools in Summerside, PEI, Anne-Marie Peters has a lot of experience with adaptive switches, and helping the children she works with to use them. So, when a colleague told her about a Makers Making Change event in nearby Charlottetown where she could be making her own switches, her interest was piqued.
