Even volunteers find employment at the Neil Squire Society

April 25, 2013

Light bulb momentsRyan became a volunteer for the Distance Computer Comfort Program to expand on his work experience in hopes of finding employment. With a background in IT, Ryan knew that volunteering at the Neil Squire Society (new window) would be the perfect fit for him.

He had one client who lived in Penticton (new window), British Columbia (new window). “I worked hard so that the participant was able to get everything that she wanted,” says Ryan. It took a few tries to figure out the perfect teaching techniques, since everyone’s learning abilities are different, but Ryan said he finally understood what the participant wanted. “It was like a light bulb went on in my head!”

The volunteering experience for Ryan paid off. He was recently hired by School District 36 (new window), the largest school district in British Columbia. “I had a wonderful experience with the Neil Squire Society. It was the perfect environment for learning. It was a great opportunity for me to share my knowledge and help other people learn – it made me feel good” quotes Ryan.
