FREDERICTON, November 28, 2019 – Neil Squire and their Makers Making Change (new window) initiative, in partnership with the Premier’s Council on Disabilities (new window) will hold a LipSync buildathon on UN Day for Persons with Disabilities.
The LipSync enables a person who has no use of their hands to use a touchscreen device, laptop or computer. The LipSync is a mouth-controlled joystick that allows a user to control an onscreen cursor with minimal head and neck movement. An open-source hardware project, the LipSync uses 3D printed parts, an Arduino Micro board, and other common parts that can be soldered to a circuit board and built in a day.
George Street Middle School students and community members will be volunteering alongside technical mentors from Makers Making Change to build over 20 LipSync devices. Each LipSync that’s built at the buildathon will be donated to people with disabilities in the Fredericton area.
