“I learned that there are employers hiring persons with various disabilities,” said Crystal, who during her birth was starved of oxygen and was left with multiple challenges including a brain injury, learning disabilities (new window), mental illness (new window), asthma (new window), and chronic pain (new window). ”I also learned to develop self esteem and more confidence which will enable me to find employment more independently in the future.”

Crystal, who joined the Employ-Ability program in Regina, Saskatchewan, enjoyed working with the staff and tutors. She particularly found the Strong Interest Inventory Test (new window) and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (new window) very helpful and enjoyable. “Learning about my values and relating them to work was my favourite part of the program.”

Crystal feels that she is different in many ways since beginning the program “I have become more direct, stronger, and less fearful. My feelings about finding work have changed. This program has given me more confidence and determination to never give up.”

Crystal continues to work with Job Development Specialist, Steve Zary, to find part time work.
