Janelle has attention deficit disorder (new window) and chronic fatigue syndrome (new window). She was having trouble finding employment when her counselor at the Gary Tinker Federation for the Disabled referred her to the Neil Squire Society’s Employ-Ability program. Janelle participated in the program from La Ronge, Saskatchewan, a small community approximately 800km north of Regina, via distance learning.
The program taught Janelle how to communicate more effectively with other people. She enjoyed talking with the other participants and instructors everyday. “This program has helped me change my feelings about finding work and to be more confident in myself,” said Janelle.
For Janelle, the most beneficial exercise in the program was learning how to write cover letters and resumes. She also gained knowledge and experience, as well as the skills needed to get her assignments finished in a timely manner.
Since completion of the program, Janelle has found employment in one of the local motels as well as at a local café. Although she finds the work exhausting, she is enjoying it thoroughly.
Way to go, Janelle!
