Darrell Finds His Way

July 12, 2011

Darrell describes himself as having a “dual disability.” Physically, he has numerous injuries to his left side leaving him unable to work; mentally, he has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (new window) (ADHD), dyslexia (new window), post traumatic stress disorder (new window), depression (new window), and anxiety (new window).

When he heard about the work of the Neil Squire Society he decided to give it a chance. He started out doing his grade 12 math credit and soon followed that up by joining the Employ-Ability program in Regina, Saskatchewan.

While in the Employ-Ability program, Darrell updated his resume and learned about time management, stress management, nutrition, patience, and gained “a greater understanding of myself and others with disabilities.

Mentally, I get frustrated and suffer from fatigue due to the way my mind works.” says Darrell. “Neil Squire Society helped me accept these limitations and how to succeed despite them. They helped me see my strengths and how to work with them.

Darrell plans to enroll in further education to upgrade his skills. He would like to work in the field of computer repair and programming. “This is an excellent program and I would encourage others to enroll and participate,” says Darrell. “It has helped me find my way.”
