From Access to Engagement: A Digital Media Literacy Strategy for Canada

Greg Pyc (new window), Neil Squire’s National Operations Manager, will be presenting at From Access to Engagement: A Digital Media Literacy Strategy for Canada. The Symposium which takes place on February 9th is hosted by MediaSmarts (new window) with support from Digital Public Square (new window).

The symposium will consist of round table discussions to determine the unique Canadian context, potential barriers to developing a digital media literacy strategy, and the opportunities for Canada to move forward as a leader in the field. This symposium is an opportunity to engage with various stakeholders to:

  • confirm the benefits of a media-literate society;
  • outline the barriers and challenges to developing and
  • implementing a national digital media literacy strategy;
  • highlight priority groups;
  • build a community of practice; and
  • create foundational commitments and principles* for
  • digital media literacy in Canada.

Greg Pyc is a member of the advisory committee for this project. Comprised of researchers, advocates, and digital equity champions, the advisory committee is aiding in the planning and facilitation of the event.
