Sophia Blows the Competition Out Of The Water

May 19, 2011

Sophia joined the Neil Squire Society’s Employ-Ability program in Burnaby, British Columbia (new window) after her arthritic (new window) condition forced her to leave her job. Sophia had been off work for some time before her condition settled enough to consider returning to work. Sophia needed time and support to decide what she wanted to do in the workplace and what she was capable of doing with her physical restrictions.

Employ-Ability participant SophiaSophia was very interested in banking and the more she investigated the more she felt she would be a good candidate for position in that field. She was encouraged that the banking system provided the opportunity for upward promotion and training.

Sophia applied to the Bank of Montreal (new window) and successfully passed the first two interviews. Although she found it “rather intense” Sophia completed the Bank of Montreal (new window)’s 6 weeks Pre-Employment Training (PET) course with flying colours with skills she gained at the Neil Squire Society. “My time at the Neil Squire Society really prepared me for attending the class at PET”, she says. The Power Point (new window) lessons given to her by Joe in the Employ-Ability program were particularly useful for a group presentation she gave. Her group was the only one to use pictures and with that they “blew the competition out of the water.”

Sophia has received and accepted an offer of employment from the Bank of Montreal (new window) and has been officially working there since April 4th. We at the Neil Squire Society could not be happier for her and wish her continuing success in all she does!
