Sushil was in a workplace accident in 1977 that resulted in the loss of three fingers on his right hand. He received toe grafts that returned some function, but he is still limited in his fine motor skills.
Sushil was well educated when he arrived in Canada as a new immigrant. Unfortunately, much of his education wasn’t recognized here.

He continued his education in Canada, obtaining a security certificate and becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (new window) (LPN).
While working part-time as a security officer, Sushil aggressively looked for employment as an LPN. His love for people and his passion for care made the LPN area a logical choice to pursue as his next career. He pursued this goal for five years, yet continually came up empty handed.
Instead of finding employment as an LPN, he found himself defeated and at rock bottom.
Sushil came to the Neil Squire Society’s Working Together program feeling lost and not sure of his direction in life.
Utilizing workshops, mock interviews, and many meetings in order to help him find employment, Sushil was on a rollercoaster of emotions. Opportunities came and went, leaving Sushil one year later in the same position — without employment and being in a financially difficult situation.
One day, during one of many meetings, nearly ready to give up on everything, Sushil offhandedly mentioned to the Job Developer that he had a few other diplomas.
The Job Developer looked at one of them, and it was a diploma for an Immigration Consultant (new window). The Job Developer and Sushil talked about why he got that diploma if he wasn’t working in that field. Sushil said that he was interested in it, but at the time there was not a huge demand for this job.
He agreed to take another look at this career path to see if there were any opportunities available.
Less than one month later, all of the hard work Sushil and the staff at the Neil Squire Society put in finally paid off — Sushil was offered a job at an Immigration Consulting firm, a job that he finally feels passionate about.
With his new career, Sushil is making a very comfortable wage and is able to meet all of his financial objectives. Happy, content, and very excited about his new career, you will find him doing what he loves most — showing his love for people and providing them with passionate care.
