The students at Templeton Secondary School’s STEM program had a hefty task at hand. First, they needed to figure out how to switch adapt a toy, taking it apart and modifying it so that a child with a disability could more easily play with it using an adaptive switch. Then, they needed to make instructions to help future makers adapt that same toy.
Bernard is a housekeeper in Whistler, and he has hearing loss. Through WorkBC Assistive Technology Services, he received funding for hearing aids that help him on the job.
This June, the Neil Squire Society, a Canadian national non-profit organization, and leader in assistive technology, will celebrate their 40th anniversary with events in Burnaby, Fredericton, Calgary, Regina, and Ottawa.
