Cybertronic Penguinz is a FIRST robotics team located in Calgary, Alberta. A big part of the club is also about giving back to the community. So, when they learned about the Clubs That Care initiative, and the opportunity to build assistive devices for Canadians with disabilities, it made a lot of sense to get involved.
Last September, Abdullah joined his brother, Hamza, a Clubs That Care youth leader for Neil Squire’s Makers Making Change program, to deliver adapted toys to the Alvin Buckwold Child Development Program in Saskatoon. The experience made a real impact on him.
When grade 12 student Nico learned he could use his design skills to make a difference in the lives of people with disabilities in his community as a Clubs That Care youth leader, he jumped at the opportunity.
Clubs That Care youth leader Dante Bravi teamed up with his alma mater, the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), to host a Hacking for the Holidays build event, making 150 low profile switches for children with disabilities.
Hamza is in his final year of studies for a Kinesiology degree at the University of Saskatchewan. He has also recently become a Clubs That Care youth leader for Neil Squire’s Makers Making Change program, leading volunteers in making adapted toys and devices for kids with disabilities.
