At HDR, an architecture and engineering firm with offices across Canada and the world, giving back to the community is an important part of their company culture. So when their Toronto office learned of an opportunity to adapt toys for children with disabilities as part of the #HackingForTheHolidays campaign by Neil Squire’s Makers Making Change program, they jumped at the opportunity.
On November 21st, over 20 students from Winnipeg’s Met schools traded in their pens and pencils for soldering irons as they worked together to build assistive switches and adapt RC car toys for children with disabilities as part of Neil Squire’s #HackingForTheHolidays campaign.
On November 15th, SaskPower staff in Saskatoon came together to work on a noble cause — adapting toys for children with disabilities.
Through our #HackingForTheHolidays campaign, Laurence received a switch-adapted toy cat, as well as a variety of switches she could use. Laurence especially loves that the toy cat has two switches and she can decide whether to make it walk or meow.
Recently, the Creation Nation Maker Space has joined as a Makers Making Change chapter, playing a big part in Neil Squire’s #HackingForTheHolidays campaign, adapting toys for children with disabilities in the community.
