You never know, they could be your future employer!

Doug already has a success story (read his story here). But for Doug, the plot thickens.

After completing his excavator training, Doug started a job in Chilliwack (new window) with a friend of the family.  Unfortunately, that job didn’t go according to plan. Doug was not going to be defeated, so with his resume and copies of his certificates in hand, he boldly presented his skills to potential employers.

Doug, doing what he does best

Visiting one construction site, Doug was greeted by a man dressed in a shirt and tie.  Turns out he was one of the owners of JJM Construction (new window) – the ninth largest contractor in British Columbia (new window).  After a discussion about his experience and training, and how he could help the company, Doug went on his way.  By the time he got back home there was a message from the gentleman asking Doug to call.  Doug explained to the owner that he had a brain injury and could not read or write, but told him how he learns best. Doug was offered a job and asked to show up the next day ready to work.

Doug has been on the job for over a week, thrilled to be part of a team and also part of a union, (new window) where he will receive benefits and a pension.  They are so impressed with Doug’s work that they are putting him in charge of a small group.  Doug has started as a labourer at $23 per hour (and $46 for overtime), with a promise to be able to work with the equipment shortly. With a secure job, Doug will now be coming off his disability pension (new window).
