Creative Employment Options Helps Mike Grow His Skills and Work Towards His Goals

March 24, 2026

Mike spent the first half of his career working in construction, having most recently spent over 15 years working as an insulator. After his physical health deteriorated due to a severe type of arthritis, Mike knew he needed a change — he couldn’t do the work he once thought he would be spending the rest of his life doing.

He immediately went to our Regina office for more information, and was able to meet with a Case Manager and had an intake on the spot. He joined our Creative Employment Options program and also took advantage of our Group Employment Skills classes.

Mike had some long-term goals in mind, such as opening his own business, selling curiosity items and other strange and unique artifacts.  But before that, he knew he had to improve his computer and other job-related skills to be successful.

Between working one-on-one with his job developer, working in group classes, and taking Computer Comfort classes, Mike learned and developed many skills that he never thought that he would have. He attended all of his classes and meetings, and actively engaged in group conversations. With the hard work and focus he put in, Mike found his employment and computer skills had improved night and day since he first joined our programs.

As part of his five-year plan, Mike still eyes opening his own business. In the meantime, he was able to land a full-time position working as a Dispatch Officer for a local cannabis company. The skills he is learning in his role will directly prepare him for the challenges of one day running his own business.

“Thank you for everything you’ve done for me. I’ve learned from you and was reminded that I’m capable and worthy. Thank you,” he shares.
