Roxanne works as an office administrator for a non-profit, managing the office, finances, media communications, and design. Through her work, she communicates with over 100 churches and their staff through phone and email to offer them supports and resources.
“I am severely to profoundly deaf and rely on my hearing aids for day-to-day communications,” she says. “Without up-to-date hearing aids, I struggle to understand those around me, those I talk to on the phone, and fully participate in running the events that we host.”
Through WorkBC Assistive Technology Services, Roxanne got funding that covered much of the cost of the new hearing aids she needs for work.
“Having functionable hearing aids and the equipment that comes with it allows me to do my job efficiently,” she says. “My new hearing aids have allowed me to hear better once again and also offered new technology to connect with electronic devices that made listening to phone calls and video calls much better. I have noticed the ability to interact with my co-workers better, assist more fully at events, and communicate on the phone and video calls better.
“I would recommend the Assistive Technology Services program,” she continues. “There are less frustrations for myself and my co-workers, as I can hear better.”
WorkBC Assistive Technology Services is operated by Neil Squire. Assistive Technology Services are available to individuals who have a work-related barrier due to a disability or a functional limitation. This may include barriers related to traveling to and from the workplace.
