Mandy works as an Administration Manager. She has hearing loss in both ears, but more severe in the left ear, which makes her job more difficult.

I am responsible for answering phones, managing messages, supporting staff, and making sure information is passed along correctly,” she shares. “Because of my hearing loss, many of these tasks are more difficult and require extra effort, and in some cases, they increase the risk of mistakes. Hearing aids are necessary to help me do my job safely and effectively.”

She was referred to WorkBC Assistive Technology Services for help funding the hearing aids she needs for work. “I received new hearing aids for both ears. This has been an amazing change for me. I feel more comfortable at work,” she says. “I can hear conversations I wasn’t hearing before. I’m not having to ask colleagues to repeat themselves. I can hear our seniors clearly which make booking their appointments less stressful for both of us.”

Mandy has seen a big difference in her workday. “All my work tasks have improved. Everything is clear and I’m not having to guess what someone is saying. I rely less on lip reading and their facial expressions. I feel more comfortable in my role,” she explains. “I feel like my job is stable and that I’m able to complete my tasks with confidence. Taking minutes has been so much better.”

She truly appreciates the service she received through WorkBC Assistive Technology Services. “I would highly recommend this service. It was a bit of paperwork for a major gain,” she says. “Thank you to everyone who helped me receive this wonderful gift. They gave clear instructions and truly helped the entire process. Thank you!”
