Anthony’s Employer Creates a Unique Position Suited to Him

June 30, 2021

Anthony lives with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) (new window) and has a history of ulcers.

Looking for help finding employment, he joined Neil Squire’s Working Together program in Regina in February.

With a background in general labour, mechanics, and construction, Anthony had a clear goal of what he wanted to achieve. He required a low-stress environment that would allow him frequent rest breaks – just like his past employment.

Anthony maintained a positive outlook and was extremely proactive in networking and applying for jobs. He was invited to several job interviews, but unfortunately did not receive an offer of employment. This did not hamper his motivation and he eagerly continued on, which is a testament to his self-confidence and dedication in working towards his goal.

Soon after, Anthony managed to connect with a tree removal company that was hiring for several positions. Although he was unable to do the hard physical labour involved in this line of work, the company was so impressed with his skills and abilities that they created a unique position just for him.

In his role, Anthony maintains the landscaping equipment, work vehicles, and the company workshop, and when called upon, he operates the log splitter.

He conveyed to his employer that he works best when learning hands-on or when given a list of tasks, which they were able to accommodate.

The employer has been impressed with his relentless work ethic and his willingness to help wherever he is able.

Anthony is very thankful for the support he received from Neil Squire and is looking forward to growing into his new career.

Good going, Anthony!
