The BC government announced today that the BC Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Community Services Network will receive funding of $3 million over three years.

With the renewed funding, the BC SCI Network will continue to focus on initiatives to improve inclusion for people with disabilities. The funding will also support a new Indigenous liaison position to help the network and Indigenous communities co-create culturally safe and relevant Indigenous programs.

“Since the passing of the Accessible BC Act last year, we have been dedicated to removing barriers, so that all people living with disabilities have an equal chance to succeed,” said Nicholas Simons, Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction. “And I am so happy that we are continuing to support the BC SCI Community Services Network, as the work they do across the province is critical to achieving this goal.”

“The Neil Squire Society is delighted to receive this funding support for the BC SCI network as it plays an instrumental role in helping our organizations work together more effectively, efficiently and seamlessly supporting persons with disabilities in BC,” said Dr. Gary Birch, Executive Director of Neil Squire. “This results in greatly reduced chances of them falling through the gaps so that they get the co-ordinated services that will enable them to be fully included and thriving members of our society.”

Formed in 2010, the BC SCI Network is comprised of five disability organizations working together to help make BC the best place for people with physical disabilities to live, work, and participate in the community. These organizations include BC Wheelchair Basketball Society (new window)BC Wheelchair Sports Association (new window)Disability Foundation (new window), Neil Squire, and Spinal Cord Injury BC (new window).
