“I Feel More Confident, More Capable, and Far More Comfortable in My Work Environment”

August 26, 2026

Emily’s job requires her to attend a lot of meetings, both in-person and virtually, as well as numerous training sessions. However, her hearing loss can make this difficult.

Modern office desk with a computer monitor, headset hanging on the screen, glasses resting on documents, and a pencil holder filled with pens.“Before coming to WorkBC [Assistive Technology Services], I attended a full day training session which was a complete waste of my time as I could not hear the speaker of the session,” she shares. “When your role depends on being able to hear speakers clearly — Zoom meetings, in-person, conversations, and training where I couldn’t hear the presenter isn’t just inconvenient or frustrating, it’s a barrier to doing my job effectively and completely missing out on the lesson.”

Her audiologist referred her to WorkBC Assistive Technology Services for help getting the hearing aids she needs for work. “I was able to test two different types of hearing adds. Once I made my final decision I was able to purchase a set of hearings aids with financial assistance from WorkBC [Assistive Technology Services].  I am very grateful for their assistance as the financial cost was difficult to meet,” she explains.

“Having hearing aids have thoroughly changed my ability to work and hear conversations,” Emily shares, noting specifically that it helps her hear co-workers when they speak in low voices in a busy office. “I want to express my sincere gratitude to WorkBC [Assistive Technology Services] for the support and assistance I have received. Being able to hear clearly is essential to performing my job well. Since receiving help, I feel more confident, more capable, and far more comfortable in my work environment.

“This improvement has made a meaningful difference in my daily life. I am happier at work, more engaged, and able to fully participate in the responsibilities of my position. I am truly grateful to WorkBC [Assistive Technology Services] for providing the support that has allowed me to continue working with confidence for years to come.”

Emily says she recommends WorkBC Assistive Technology Services, particularly praising the service she received from our team.

“I want to especially thank [General Disability Practitioner and Regional Coordinator] Michelle Cooper for her exceptional assistance and patience while guiding me through each step. Your willingness to help, answer questions, [. . .] has meant so much. All of your support has been greatly appreciated,” she shares. “I would also like to give a big thank you to [Administrative Clerk] Andleeb Naqati for the initial meeting and for setting everything in motion. Your help in getting the form prepared made the entire process much easier.”
