Kylah Maher Attends Chief Harold Sappier Memorial Elementary School (CHSMES) Powwow for National AccessAbility Week

A community gathers at the Chief Harold Sappier Memorial Elementary School powwow.

On Wednesday, Kylah Maher, Junior Case Manager for our Empower3D program, had the opportunity to attend the 2025 Powwow hosted by Chief Harold Sappier Memorial Elementary School (CHSMES) in Fredericton, New Brunswick. This vibrant cultural event brought together students, families, and community members to celebrate Indigenous traditions through drumming, dancing, and ceremonial practices.

Representing both Neil Squire and the Premier’s Council on Disabilities (new window), she staffed an outreach table offering informational materials and free promotional items. Attendees showed great interest in learning about our organizations’ initiatives, and the engagement provided a valuable platform for community connection and awareness.

One of the highlights of the day was when some of the CHSMES students enthusiastically joined in — proudly handing out pens from our table to Elders and other attendees. They even started explaining who we are and what we do, becoming our youngest and most passionate promoters! It was a heartwarming reminder of the power of community and connection.
