LipSync Update: Access Makeathon Venues

January 26, 2017

It’s nearly here — we’re just one day away from the Access Makeathon (new window). With that in mind, we’d like to share with you the venues of the Access Makeathon.

The exterior of the Centre for Digital Media

The opening and closing of the Access Makeathon will take place at The Hangar (new window) at the Centre for Digital Media (new window) (located at 685 Great Northern Way, Vancouver, BC (new window), just a few minutes west of VCC-Clark Station (new window)), which will also serve as the home of the workshops throughout the weekend.

The Centre for Digital Media is the result of a collaboration between four postsecondary institutions — the University of British Columbia (new window), Simon Fraser University (new window), the Emily Carr University of Art and Design (new window), and the British Columbia Institute of Technology (new window) — and hosts the Master of Digital Media program.

The Hangar is an 8,000 square foot multi-purpose facility, located in CDM|577, one of two buildings hosting the Access Makeathon.

“Hackers” hard at work inside the Vancouver Hack Space

The Vancouver Hack Space (new window) (located at #104-1715 Cook St (new window)), which describes itself as “the community garage for a community without garages,” is where some of the more “heavy duty” making will take place.

While making will be done at both locations, at the Vancouver Hack Space, a wide of tools, such as CNC machines and laser cutters (and more than a few 3D printers) will be available. In addition to tools and space, members of the Vancouver Hack Space have graciously donated their time and will be there to serve as knowledgeable mentors to our teams.

The Vancouver Hack Space will be open to us from 9:00 am Saturday to 1:00 pm Sunday. With a relatively short distance between the two locations (an under 10 minute bus ride, or a 20 minute walk), we expect that many teams will be splitting their time between The Hangar and the Vancouver Hack Space as they work to finish their challenges on Saturday and Sunday.
