Daymon works as an instructional assistant at a college on Vancouver Island. He tutors students taking college and pre-college level Humanities courses, as well as working in the areas of academic advising, test invigilation, and registration. However, hearing loss made his job more difficult.
“Working in a very quiet environment, I would often struggle communicating with students and colleagues, which led to immense personal frustrations that influenced my mental health [negatively],” he shares.
A co-worker referred him to WorkBC Assistive Technology Services for help funding the hearing aids he needs to do his job. “I was able to receive assistance in acquiring hearing aids, which have since had a powerfully positive impact on my work life,” he explains.
Daymon says he “most certainly” recommends WorkBC Assistive Technology Services to others. “With hearing aids, I no longer feel reluctant or ashamed at work; every voice is clear and each task can be completed without frequent requests for repeating words or phrases,” he says.
WorkBC Assistive Technology Services is operated by Neil Squire. Assistive Technology Services are available to individuals who have a work-related barrier due to a disability or a functional limitation. This may include barriers related to traveling to and from the workplace.
