Shaylee Grateful for Meaningful Work With Listen to Dis’

February 27, 2023

Shaylee had come across Neil Squire during an internet search, and decided to join our Working Together program with the goal of finding part-time administration work in the fine arts.

Working Together participant ShayleeShaylee was born with a barrier that limits her left-side mobility tremendously as well as her depth perception. In addition, Shaylee also has a learning and a mental health barrier, making it difficult to work in large crowds without breaks. She has brain fog and disorganization, she will start tasks and not complete them, and she learns best through reading and hand-over-hand teaching.

Shaylee worked hard with the Working Together team to strengthen her skill set to make her more competitive in today’s workplace setting. Shaylee updated her resume and cover letter and learned to tailor them to positions in the administrative assistant field.

Going through the job search process, Shaylee landed an interview with the Listen to Dis’ Community Arts Organization (new window), a non-profit disability-led, disability arts organization. Shaylee has been a long-time participant in their programs, and has acted in their digital projects.

She nailed the interview and was hired as an Administrative Assistant, where her duties include programming, administrative tasks, hosting digital programs, grant applications, scheduling, stage management, and more.

Shaylee is happy to be working for a fine arts organization that helps support people with disabilities in employment. Shaylee is grateful for the Working Together program, and is happy with the support she received from Neil Squire.
