Lex, who uses they/them pronouns, has hypermobility disorder and ADHD. When they first joined our Empower3D program, their goals were to learn how to properly write a cover letter, revamp their resume, and explore career options that aligned with their interests.
During the pre-employment and manufacturing-adjacent skills training portion of the program, Lex particularly enjoyed the career assessment exercises, which helped them understand themselves better and informed their job-search and career planning.
When they finished training, Lex secured a work placement in horticulture as a greenhouse worker at a locally owned plant shop. Lex finds the job very fulfilling, and it has deepened their interest in the field.
Thanks to Empower3D, Lex has found valuable work experience they truly enjoy, gained confidence in their job-hunting skills, and they now feel excited exploring new career and educational opportunities as they look to the future.
Lex credits the supportive and inclusive environment at Neil Squire for making them feel empowered.
“Everyone at Neil Squire was kind, thoughtful, and always ready to lend a hand,” Lex shares. “They created a safe and inclusive learning environment that I would recommend to anyone with a disability who could use some extra help.”
