Solange has a great talent — she makes her own clothing and can replicate many designs.
Having immigrated to Canada in 2008, she had previously obtained a diploma in Fashion and Sewing Arts. She has been working on and improving on her craft ever since.
Solange has rheumatoid arthritis (opens in a new window) and diabetes (opens in a new window), and uses a power wheelchair.
She came to Neil Squire in hopes of finding a part-time job as a seamstress. In the Moncton area, there are home-based seamstresses, yet very limited potential employers in this field — many businesses in this field are not accessible.
Neil Squire has helped Solange in many ways.
Before, she did not have a computer and minimal experience using one. Through the Computer Comfort program, she received a free refurbished laptop and went through one-on-one computer training. She recognized that computer training will open more doors for her.
Solange is a determined woman and has continued on a journey of learning and growth.
She is currently in the Working Together program. The team has been working with her on her own business ideas and developing a plan. They are working together to secure her a part-time job to save money to buy a new sewing machine and materials to open her own home-based business.
