Matthew was born with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, which causes him difficulties in processing information. With a passion for fitness, diet, and health, he joined our Empower3D program wanting to work in a role involving food.

During his 14 weeks of pre-employment and skills training, Matthew found enjoyment in every aspect, and valued the opportunity to connect with new people and acquire new skills. He particularly appreciated the course on workplace safety.

When he completed his training, he earned a position as a barista at a social enterprise coffee shop. This opportunity has brought about a significant positive shift in Matthew’s life.

“A job has changed my life,” he shares. “The Empower3D program is the best thing that has happened to me.”

Matthew sees his experience in Empower3D as a crucial stepping stone in his goal to enroll in the culinary program at the local polytechnic college and become a Red Seal Chef.
