Alfred works as a media producer for a supplement company, in charge of all aspects of media production for the company from the concept to filming to post-production. Working with a creative team, as well as liaising with a variety of stakeholders, communication is vital. However, Alfred has sensorineural hearing loss in both ears.

A person holds a DSLR camera with a stabilizer.“The hearing loss impacts my ability to communicate with the members of my team,” he shares. “I would often struggle to hear discussions which directly affects my active participation in conversations at the workplace.”

He was referred to WorkBC Assistive Technology Services by the hearing aid vendor Amplifon.

Through WorkBC Assistive Technology Services, Alfred received funding to cover the full cost of a new set of hearing aids.

“I would 100% recommend this program to others in need,” Alfred says. “The hearing aids have absolutely and without a doubt improved my situation at work. I rarely have to ask for statements to be repeated and have been able to follow conversations much better. It’s alleviated much of the frustration from communicating with my team and allowed me to be more efficient at work.”

Since he got his hearing aids, Alfred has been excelling at work, even having recently received a promotion.

“Thank you for your assistance, I am incredibly grateful for receiving this support. It’s been challenging to admit to myself and to others that I have been suffering from hearing loss for so many years. Having the hearing aids at work has been invaluable and has allowed me to work at my best.”
